ANZAC Commemorations

Poppies

Every year, going to Dawn Parade is an important way I begin ANZAC Day. For many years it was with Girls’ Brigade, supporting my girls and then later as an officer. I also had the privilege of supporting my son when he marched with Boys’ Brigade. It has been a real privilege to take former veterans and march with them.

These days, I usually attend with one of my daughters and two of my grandkids. This year was no exception.

Our tradition, along with many others, at the end of the ceremony, to go up to the cenotaph and we each place our poppy on it. The kids are still little and coming to terms with what it all means but it is neat to see them begin to make sense of this and to establish it as a regular thing that they do every year.
