Happy New Year to you all – and my apologies for being a bit slow off the mark! 2017 is well underway.
As I look back I remember many ways in which we have celebrated life over the past little while. Our celebrations have included jumping out of aeroplanes – wow; family dinners; music concerts – both attending and being part of the performance; family days out; picnics; birthday cakes; speeches and displaying of photos from the past. There are so many different ways we can acknowledge special occasions.
Given the opportunity, I really love capturing some of the the story behind why we are celebrating in words. This is a big part of why I have become a celebrant. I love hearing the stories behind the event, something about the people involved and how they got to the celebration. Birthdays, Family Reunions, Naming Ceremonies, Weddings, Funerals – there is a story to be told. Only a small portion can be captured but to be able share just a small part of that story, or hear it if I am in the audience instead of up front, is such a privilege.
Of course the summer season, right through until fall, is a popular time for weddings. This year is no exception. Wind has been a feature this season but it has not been able to take away from the celebrations I have been at. Most of the time I only get to know a very small part of the stories of the couples, the guests have so much more to tell. But again, hearing and being able to share some of what has bought couples to get married is such a neat thing to be able to do.
In my own little family this year, we have a few milestones to celebrate – and we will. If you have a special birthday; a family member you want to honor; a wedding; or other celebration – I would be delighted to hear the story behind the event and share some of that at a celebration this year.
Life events are worth celebrating!
